Ingredients

  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats and whole wheat flour. If you are using cinnamon, mix it in at this stage.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the applesauce and the egg until thoroughly combined.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir the mixture well until it forms a dough. If the dough seems too sticky, you can add a bit more flour to achieve the right consistency.
  • Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to create shapes of your choice.
  • Place the shaped cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the cookies are golden brown and firm to the touch.
  • Once baked, allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack before serving to your dog.

Notes

For additional flavor variations, consider incorporating dog-safe fruits such as mashed bananas or pureed pumpkin into the mix. These modifications not only enhance the taste but also provide additional nutrients for your canine companion. Enjoy crafting these delectable and healthful oatmeal and apple dog cookies!
